Experience
Sonia Gardner is President and Managing Partner at Avenue Capital Group, a global alternative investment manager with over $11 billion in assets. Sonia co-founded the company with her brother in 1995 and has since spearheaded the company’s development into an international organization with a dozen offices and 170 employees worldwide. Prior to co-founding Avenue Capital, Sonia held positions including Senior Attorney of the Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization Department at Cowen & Company and General Counsel, and Senior Managing Director of Amroc Investments. She currently serves as the Goodwill Ambassador for Gender Equality in Access to Finance for the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and Chairman Emeritus of the organization 100 Women in Finance. She is also a member of the Client Advisory Board for Citi Private Bank, a subsidiary of multinational banking conglomerate Citigroup.
